Christmas or X-mas?

Christmas or X-mas? The X was used in ancient abbreviations for Χριστος (Greek for "Christ"). Many Christians believe that the X is a way of blocking out Christ from the word Christmas. Some people believe that the X represents the cross of Christ crucified. There is no background truth for this because the cross is really shaped as a T or+. Europeans in the 16th century started using the X in place of Christ's name as shorthand for writing Christ. So is it OK or not to use an abbreviation of X for Christ. I can only go with my heart and for me I feel very uncomfortable using the X. Christ deserves our full respect and honor. Christmas is a festival of Christ's birth. He is the Son of God. He died for us. I say Christmas is correct and to abbreviate Christ is a sign of laziness and disrespect. This is my opinion; you must follow your heart.

Jack,
I agree with following your heart. Christianity becomes very complicated when people argue over things that we will never know are "right" or "wrong". So, like you said follow your heart and what God leads you to believe.

Brooke,

Yes indeed, in fact the Bible warns us not to argue over the Word.

2 Timothy 2:14-19 Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."
